ACCORD, A Center for Dispute Resolution, Inc., Binghamton
to provide funding for the Voices for Children/Court Appointed Special Advocate Program. Cases are referred to this Program by the Broome County Family Treatment Court for increased advocacy, case monitoring and assistance in case planning for children named in a court petition because of suspected or indicated child abuse or neglect by parents struggling with substance abuse.
Bethlehem Youth Court, Inc., Delmar
for the Bethlehem Youth Court which aims to divert children and young adults who commit low-level, non-violent offenses from the traditional court system through a hearing and sentencing conducted by peers. Eligible cases are referred to the Youth Court by the Bethlehem Police Department, Bethlehem Town Court and Albany County Probation. Partial funding directed from The Judith S. Kaye Youth Court Fund.
Brennan Center for Justice, New York
to improve opportunities for low-income individuals, families, and communities to secure effective legal representation and basic access to the courts in New York State.
Brooklyn Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project, Inc., Brooklyn
to expand critical legal services for distressed Brooklyn residents, particularly the elderly and residents of minority neighborhoods, facing the loss of their homes.
CASA of the Southern Tier, Inc., Corning
to train volunteers to serve as neutral third parties to Family Court, Article 10 proceedings.
Center for Appellate Litigation, New York
to improve and enable family support for clients leaving prison and to improve access to resources and information about reentry. Partial funding directed from The John R. Dunne Fund.
Center for Court Innovation, New York
to provide funding to the Center for Courts and the Community to expand an existing initiative to develop a recommended practices manual to support New York State's network of Youth Courts.
Center for Court Innovation, New York
for the Staten Island Youth Court, a leadership development program that provides opportunities for local teens to hear cases involving low-level offenses committed by youth. The cases are referred to the Youth Court by the New York City Department of Probation, New York City Policy Department and the Richmond County Criminal Court.

for the Youth Justice Board which seeks to influence juvenile justice through a model participatory democracy program that brings the voice of well-informed youth directly to policymakers. The current focus of the Youth Justice Board is recommendations to improve and expand New York City’s Alternative to Detention Programs.

for the Community Advocacy Teams Program, which aims to prevent and shorten foster care placements and ensure that families achieve the stability necessary to prevent foster care placement in the future.
Council for the Prevention of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Hudson Falls

to increase the amount of attorney representation available to low- and moderate-income borrowers facing the risk of foreclosure in the greater Capital Region.

to provide comprehensive educational advocacy services for children and youth at a high risk level of underachievement, school failure and becoming a school drop out.

for a law student to pursue the Intellectual Property Law Section Fellowship to evaluate and address intellectual property law issues for legal services providers in New York State. Funding directed from The Intellectual Property Law Section Fellowship Fund.

to expand LawHelp.org/NY, a Web site that provides free legal information to low-income, limited English proficient, and other vulnerable New Yorkers.

for the Caregivers Legal Support Center, which provides legal information, advice and representation to unpaid family caregivers and their elderly care recipients.
Lifespan of Greater Rochester, Inc., Rochester
for The Prevalence of Elder Abuse in New York State Next Steps Project to convene an Elder Abuse Summit in 2010. The program will bring together experts from across the state to develop recommendations to address the growing problem of abuse of the elderly.
MFY Legal Services, Inc., New York
to protect the income of low- and fixed-income New Yorkers, to promote law reform to end abusive debt collection practices, and to level the legal playing field for defendants in consumer debt cases.
My Sisters' Place, Inc., White Plains
for the Special Litigation & Appeals Project to provide advanced litigation support and appellate representation to victims of domestic violence in Westchester County and surrounding counties, including New York City. The goal is to help victims achieve safety and economic and emotional self-sufficiency through representation on matters including custody, visitation, child support, orders of protection and immigration.
Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee, Inc., Hempstead
to continue financial support for a second full-time staff attorney position in the Permanency Legal Assistance Needs Project. The attorney will provide legal services to persons of low-income living with cancer in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, Inc., New York
to continue the Guardianship Training Project, through which low-income parents and caregivers of children with severe disabilities receive training on the legal processes involved in petitioning the courts for legal guardianship of their loved ones to ensure they are cared for into adulthood.
New York State Bar Association, Committee on Issues Affecting People with Disabilities, Albany
to continue funding for its award-winning Disability and the Law video series, which is aimed at educating and informing persons with disabilities of their legal rights and how to obtain legal assistance. This year’s project addresses international issues and rights for persons with disabilities.
New York State Bar Association, Committee on Minorities in the Profession, Albany
to fund Youth Law Days, which provide an introduction to the profession and practice of law to high school students who are economically disadvantaged and/or of color.
New York State Bar Association, Environmental Law Section, Environmental Justice Committee, Albany
to provide the opportunity for minority law students to work for 10 weeks at a New York-based environmental not-for-profit or governmental entity. The objective of the program is to introduce law students to environmental law with a goal of increasing the ethnic diversity of environmental lawyers in New York State. Funding directed from the Environmental Law Section Fund.
New York State Bar Association, Law, Youth & Citizenship Program, Albany
to continue the Mock Trial Summer Institute, which provides an opportunity for high school students to increase their Mock Trial skills by attending a week-long, intensive educational Mock Trial experience.
New York State Bar Association, Law, Youth & Citizenship Program, Albany
to conduct a National Symposium on the First Amendment, Religion and Public Schools. This multi-dimensional, cross-disciplinary forum will examine and discuss First Amendment issues as they relate to public education and religion and will provide related information, ideas and resources.
New York State Bar Association, Law, Youth & Citizenship Program, Albany
to continue funding for the New York Statewide High School Mock Trial Tournament. Through participation in the Tournament program, students and teachers, as well as observers, are presented with learning opportunities regarding the rule of law, civic engagement, personal enrichment, and legal career pursuits.

to conduct a Law-Related Education Summer Institute in partnership with Project P.A.T.C.H., the Law-Related Education Program of the Northport-East Northport U.F.S.D. and the Center for Civic Education.

New York State Defenders Association, Inc., Albany
to fund its Criminal Defense Immigration Project, to focus on providing New York's criminal defense community with expert legal advice, publications and trainings on issues involving the interplay between criminal and immigration law.
Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation, New York
to continue funding a program that is providing Manhattan's working poor residents with legal representation, advice, education advocacy and counseling in the area of consumer debt.
Partnership for Children’s Rights, New York
to provide funding for the Special Education Appeals Project that helps children with disabilities in New York City access special services to which they are entitled under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The funding will underwrite the increased cost in preparing memoranda for hearings and in responding to an increasing number of New York City Department of Education appeals.
Prisoners’ Legal Services of New York, Albany
to publish additional and more comprehensive Pro Se newsletters that will cover critical issues of importance to New York State prisoners, legal services organizations, private attorneys, judges, legislators and other interested individuals. Pro Se is a quarterly newsletter that educates prisoners about their legal rights and teaches them how to advocate both administratively and through the state and federal court systems.
Pro Bono Net, Inc., New York
to expand its initiatives aimed at both significantly increasing the number of New York lawyers providing pro bono legal services to the poor and supporting the work of legal services organizations dealing with significant poverty law crises. Partial funding directed from The Robert L. Haig Fund.
Public Utility Law Project of New York, Inc., Albany
to continue funding to update its Law Manual which addresses utility law issues including electric, natural gas and telephone. The Manual is used by low-income advocates and civil legal services lawyers to aid in their provision of services to low-income consumers.
Resolution Center OBO Court Appointed Special Advocates of Lewis County, Lowville
funding will be used to recruit and provide training to volunteers who work to provide permanency for children who have been removed from or are at risk of being removed from their home due to abuse and/or neglect.
Rural Law Center of New York, Inc., Plattsburgh
to continue funding for the Stepping Up for Grandparents Project which provides support and advocacy for grandparents who are seeking custody of grandchildren who are at risk of being placed in foster care.
Sanctuary For Families, Inc., New York
for a law school student or recent law school graduate to pursue the Joan L. Ellenbogen Memorial Fellowship in the Matrimonial and Economic Justice Project. The Project helps victims of domestic violence achieve independence and freedom from abuse by providing them with direct representation, advocacy, consultations and legal services. Funding directed from The Joan L. Ellenbogen Memorial Fellowship Fund.
Selfhelp Community Services, Inc., New York
to provide funding for the legal advocate position in the Evelyn Frank Legal Resources Program. The Program provides direct representation for the impoverished vulnerable elderly living in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Nassau County and provides technical assistance and case consultation to client advocates (social workers, health care workers, legal services attorneys) throughout the State of New York.
South Brooklyn Legal Services, Inc., Brooklyn
for the Child Care Employer Responsibilities Project to provide advice and legal services to home-based low-income family day care providers to assist them with employer compliance matters.
The Bronx Defenders, Bronx
for the New York Advocate Library of the Reentry Net program, which serves as a Statewide resource for criminal defense attorneys, civil legal service providers, pro bono attorneys, and other advocates assisting individuals with overcoming barriers to successful reintegration into society after prison, jail, or a simple arrest. Partial funding directed from The John R Dunne Fund.
The Door - A Center of Alternatives, Inc., New York
for the Pro Bono Immigration Training Project to develop improved written training and reference materials for pro bono attorneys accepting Special Immigrant Juvenile Status cases referred by The Door.
The Legal Aid Society, New York
for the Domestic Violence Training Initiative to provide victims and survivors of domestic violence with knowledge and resources that will assist them in accessing their rights under family, matrimonial and immigration laws. Training will also be conducted for domestic violence advocates from other community-based organizations and legal services providers on complex issues relating to domestic violence. Partial funding directed from The Anne B. Keenan Memorial Fund.
Urban Justice Center, New York
for the Community Development Project to continue its pro bono project which matches New York City grassroots organizations in need of legal services with pro bono attorneys that will help meet theirs legal needs.
Urban Justice Center, New York
to fund the Real Property Law Section Minority Fellowship whereby a law school student will assist the Community Development Project in providing legal services relating to housing to low-income tenants and legal services relating to foreclosure to low-income homeowners in New York City. Funding directed from The Real Property Law Section Minority Fellowship Fund.
Vermont Immigration and Asylum Advocates, Burlington, VT
to continue funding for the Clinton County Jail Detention Program which provides immigration legal services to non-U.S. citizens who are detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the Clinton County Jail, Plattsburgh, NY. Partial funding directed from The John R. Dunne Fund.
WomensLaw.org, Brooklyn
to provide funding for the Latina Outreach Project. The Project aims to increase access to vital domestic violence and legal information among Latinas in New York City through educational workshops, partnerships with other New York City community-based organizations that serve Latinas, and Web site content specific to Latina women.
Women's Prison Association, New York
for the Legal Project to provide legal advocacy and support in civil matters to women who are incarcerated or working to rebuild their lives post-incarceration. Issues addressed may include domestic violence, legal barriers to housing, public benefits and employment.
Workers' Rights Law Center of New York, Inc., Kingston
for the Litigation and Community Legal Education Project. The Project provides free legal services, focusing on employment cases, and community legal education to low-wage and immigrant workers in nine Hudson Valley Counties.
